Why Support the Constitutional Democracy Project?
Each year our programs reach thousands of Illinois students and provide training and resources to hundreds of educators here and across the nation to influence a generation of informed and engaged citizens. The Constitutional Democracy Project's programs and curricula are nonpartisan and help schools meet their civic mission by providing students with authentic opportunities to learn and practice life in a democratic society.
It is because of our project's volunteers, donors, and partners, the constitution comes to life for students. Without this support, our work would not be possible.
“The skills that students gain in these lessons and programs are integral to my students’ development as critical thinkers and sophisticated readers and writers, and adeptly address many of the skills we are focusing on in our new Common Core Standards. They allow students to develop the skills of citizenship both in their own community as well as in an international setting, which we all need our young people to be armed with in order for our democracy to continue to thrive in our global age.” – Melissa Riley, Social Studies Teacher, Maine West High School (Des Plaines, Illinois)
